Gryphon women skate to 10th straight win

Gribbons nets winner in overtime for high-flying Gryphs in win over second place Lakers

It took some late-game heroics, but the University of Guelph Gryphons women's hockey team pulled out a 5-4 overtime win over the Nipissing Lakers Sunday at the Gryphon Centre.

Katherine Bailey scored the equalizer in the final minute of regulation with the goalie pulled and Guelph already on a five-on-three power play. Kelly Gribbons then buried the overtime winner.

Six graduating players on the Gryphons – Marcie Landman, Avery Nooren, Christine Grant, Leigh Shilton, Stephanie Nehring, and Jessica Pinkerton – were honoured before the game.

Nehring stopped 18 shots in earning the win in net.

Guelph is now 16-4-2-1 on the season. They wrap up the regular season with a game at Brock Saturday.
