The Guelph Gryphons downed the St. Thomas Tommies 3-0 Thursday afternoon in Calgary  to advance to the CIS semifinals for just the second time in school history.

The top-seeded Gryphons will face the winner of the McGill/University of British Columbia game that was to be played Thursday evening. The semifinal takes place at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Marcie Landman opened the scoring in the second period then Averi Nooren made it 2-0 later in the frame. Nooren had the only goal of the third period.

Valerie Lamenta, who earlier this week was named CIS player of the year, made 18 saves to earn the shutout.

Guelph's only other trip to the national semifinals was in 1998 when they lost 3-0 to Concordia.
