The Guelph Gryphons may have struggled in 2022, but running back Isaiah Smith proved to be a bright spot for the team moving forward.
Smith was named OUA rookie of the year Thursday, capturing the Norm Marshall award.
The Burlington native ran for 495 yards and three touchdowns in seven games, averaging over 70 yards a game.
He's the first Gryphon to win the award since Nick Fitzgibbon took it home in 2006, and fourth player in team history.
Smith was also named one of 11 OUA all-rookies for his efforts, and one of five running backs.
A trio of Gryphons were also named first team all-stars in the OUA this year, including receiver Vyshonne Janusas, defensive end Scott Murray and cornerback Siriman Harrison Bagayogo.
Guelph finished with just one win in eight games this year, missing the OUA playoffs for the first time since 2011.
Queen's and Western will play for the 114th Yates Cup in London this Saturday.
