Gryphs drop Game 1 of OUA semifinal

Game 2 goes Saturday in Guelph

The Guelph Gryphons men opened their OUA semifinal series against the Western Mustangs on a losing note Thursday in London.

Spenser Cobbold scored the game winner with 3:19 remaining in the third period. Game 2 of thebest-of-three series goes Saturday night at the Gryphon Centre.

Andrew Goldberg had put Western up 1-0 in the first period and Guelph's Kyle Neuber, with his seventh goal in seven playoff games, tied the game in the second on the power play.

Guelph went 0-for-7 on the power play.

Andrew D'Agostini made 40 saves in the Guelph net.

The winner of the series advances to the OUA final and also earns a berth in the CIS championships in Halifax. The loser will play the loser of the OUA's other  semifinal and the winner of that game gets the OUA's second berth in the nationals.
