Guelph-connected runner finishes third in Boston Marathon

Duchene leads the way, Coolsaet also in the top 10

Krista Duchene, who is trained by Speed River and University of Guelph coach Dave Scott-Thomas, was the third woman to cross the finish line at the Boston Marathon on Monday.

Duchene finished in a time of 2:44:20, four minutes and 26 seconds behind winner Des Linden of the United States and 16 seconds behind second place finisher Sarah Sellers of the United States.

Longtime Speed River runner and former Guelph Gryphon Reid Coolsaet finished ninth on the men's side in 2:25:02, just over nine minutes back of winner Yuki Kawauchi of Japan.

A third elite runner with local ties, Eric Gillis, formerly of Speed River and the Gryphons, did not finish.
