GREATER ONTARIO JUNIOR HOCKEY LEAGUE

On Wednesday, May 2, the Ontario Hockey Association approved the application from the Guelph Hurricanes Junior B Hockey Club to move their club to Cambridge for the start of the 2018-19 season.
After thirty-six years, the Guelph Hurricanes, originally the Cambridge Shamrocks, will be returning to their hometown and playing at the historic Galt Arena Gardens.
Owners of the Guelph Hurricanes, Scott and Kelly Hunter, are thrilled to be bringing Junior hockey back to Cambridge.
“Cambridge has always had a strong hockey culture and a proud hockey history including the likes of hockey legend Gordie Howe, explains Scott Hunter. “We couldn’t be more excited to bring back high level competitive hockey to Cambridge in a way that supports the community, its fans and its legacy”. Hunter adds “the City of Cambridge has been fantastic to work with and has welcomed us with open arms.”
“On behalf of The Guelph Hurricanes, I also want to thank the City of Guelph and its fans, volunteers and staff for their support of the team over the years,” says Hunter.
"As a hockey club, the mission of this organization is to provide an elite hockey development experience ensuring our players respect themselves, their peers and their community by instilling honesty, responsibility and teamwork in order to deliver a highly competitive and exciting brand of Junior B Hockey for our fans."
The team will undergo a re-branding and name change for the upcoming season which will be announced in the coming weeks.
