GUELPH MARLIN AQUATIC CLUB
The Guelph Marlin Aquatic Club and its coaches and instructors are ready to welcome all swimmers and celebrate ‘Back to Pool’ as the Club’s Fall 2021 programs for swimmers of all ages and experience levels get underway in September at local pools after two challenging, truncated seasons due to covid-19 restrictions.
“When September arrives, for some it means back to school but for the Guelph Marlins, it means ‘Back to Pool’ and we couldn’t be more ready! Our certified coaching staff, including two new coaches, are raring to get going, with plans and preps in place to hit the ground running for our entire swimming community from our learn to swim lesson program, to pre-competitive, competitive and through to master’s swimmers. We can’t wait to welcome our swimmers of all levels Back to the Pool!’ said Laura Nicholls, Director of Age Group and Development, Guelph Marlin Aquatic Club and two-time Olympian
“It's essential for our three kids to know how to swim so we were delighted to hear the Guelph Marlin Swim Lessons would be running again this fall. Our kids haven't had swim lessons for almost two years and you can see it. The older they get, the more they lack confidence. We’re definitely enrolling them in the September two-week power session so they get a jump start! They are excited and we are too!" said Sarah Taylor, parent of Swim Lesson Program participants.
“I’m super excited to get back to training for this coming season! It’s been quite a while and I’m really looking forward to practicing with all my teammates again. Since it’s my last year, I’m really hoping to make the most of the time I’ve got and accomplish all my goals before leaving for university next fall,” said Ali Kudo, (age 17) of the Guelph Marlin Senior Group.
Summer Olympics-inspired swimming excitement, combined with delays in learning to swim and gaps in pool time for competitive swimmers looking to improve their performance arising from Covid-19 restrictions has created a perfect storm of pent-up demand to get ‘Back to Pool.’ In response, the Guelph Marlins has nearly doubled its capacity to deliver swim lessons in Fall 2021 to accommodate record-breaking interest.
Coaching staff also have break-in schedules and conditioning plans for pre-competitive and competitive swimmers prepared and at the ready. The Guelph Marlins hope to provide a return to competition opportunities although it is too soon to provide details about when and how competitions will be held.
All Guelph Marlins programming will be delivered in strict compliance with the Covid protocols of Step 3 of Ontario’s reopening plan. For lesson programs for children ages three and up, instructors will be in the water. Instructors will wear a mask when in closer contact and physical distancing of two metres cannot be maintained. Competitive program swimmers must follow regulations strictly including social distancing in the facility and in the pool/lane, masking until entering the pool, and daily health checks.
