The Guelph Nighthawks are set to start their Canadian Elite Basketball League season Monday night in Ottawa against the expansion Ottawa BlackJacks.

The game starts at 7 p.m. can be watched a variety of ways (see options here).

They will play two more games on the road — Saturday in Hamilton at 1:30 p.m. and Monday in Hamilton at 7 p.m. — before playing their home opener on Friday, July 9, at the Sleeman Centre. At this point COVID protocols will mean no fans.

The Nighthawks will play an abbreviated 14-game season with playoffs held in Edmonton in early August.

After finishing fifth with a 3-3 round robin record in the CEBL Summer Series last year, the Nighthawks have added size to their front court this off season in acquiring Canadian, Justin Jackson.

Jackson, a former second-round pick of the Denver Nuggets, spent the last two seasons in the NBA G-League with the Lakeland Magic and was a member of their 2021 championship winning roster. The Scarborough, Ont., native returns home to Canada to play basketball for the first time since leaving for the University of Maryland in 2016.

Guelph have also added more G-League experience in acquiring guards Ahmed Hill and Isaiah Reese, who spent time with the Greensboro Swarm and Santa Cruz Warriors, respectively.

The BlackJacks will look to rebound from a 103-78 opening night loss to the Niagara River Lions.
