Guelph Royals fall to 2-5 on season with loss to Brantford

Red Sox explode for eight in the eighth inning to down Guelph

The Brantford Red Sox struck for eight runs in the eighth inning to to blow open a tight ball game Saturday at Hastings Stadium en route to a 10-4 win over the Guelph Royals.

Guelph scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning but it was too little too late.

Catcher Blake Kauer led Guelph with two hits and four RBI's, including a triple. Aaron Loder had three hits as the Royals totaled just seven hits in the game against a pair of Hamilton pitchers.

A.J. Mackey took the loss for the Royals, surrendering three hits and four runs in seven and one third innings. He struck out two and didn't walk anyone.

Ben Reid and Jeff MacLeod gave up seven runs without recording an out in relief of Mackey.

Guelph plays in Hamilton Tuesday, in Burlington Thursday, then hosts Kitchener on Saturday.
