Guelph Royals split weekend games with Toronto Maple Leafs

Will host Burlington Braves on Tuesday at Hastings Stadium

The Guelph Royals split their weekend home-and-home series with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Saturday they beat the Maple Leafs 11-1 at Hastings Stadium, then lost 11-6 at Christie Pits on Sunday.

Guelph is now 6-19 on the season but no longer in last place in the Intercounty Baseball League standings, having moved a game up on the Hamilton Cardinals.

In the Saturday win, Alberto Rodriquez pitched eight innings of three hit ball to get the win. Adrian Yuen got the save.

Guelph piled up 11hits, three each off the bat of Tino Silvestri and Chandler McLaren.

Sunday in Toronto, Guelph led 5-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth before the Maple Leafs rallied with nine runs over the next four innings.

Guelph had eight hits in the game, including homers from Matt Schmidt and Aaron Loder.

Marc-Andre Major took the loss on the mound, giving up five runs in four innings of work. He struck out six and walked three.

Guelph will host Burlington on Tuesday night starting at 7:30.
