Nominations are still being accepted for the Guelph Sports Hall of Fame.

“We invite the public to help us recognize and celebrate Guelph’s sports heroes by nominating community members who reflect sporting excellence in our city,” says Andrew Maloney, chair of the Guelph Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors, who also explains that the selection committee relies solely on nominations from the public to create a pool of candidates.

Categories include:

  • athlete;
  • builder; and
  • team.

To be eligible, nominees must have outstanding achievement and prominence in a sport or made a major contribution to the development and advancement of sports in Guelph.

The 2020 inductees announced in 2020 were:

  • Paul Brydges (athlete)
  • Brad Pirie (athlete)
  • Rob Massey (builder)
  • Ben Wallace (builder)

and in the team category the 2014 U16AA Guelph Sodrox Predators.

Unfortunately, COVID restrictions did not allow for the 2020 Kiwanis sports celebrity dinner to occur, where these 2020 inductees were to be honoured.

The Board remains optimistic that the 2020 inductees can be acknowledged, in person, in 2021. The Guelph Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1992 by the City of Guelph and the Kiwanis Club of Guelph. Each year (pre-COVID) inductees are celebrated at the Kiwanis Sports Celebrity Dinner, and their achievements are permanently recorded in a public display at the Sleeman Centre.
