The Guelph Storm has picked up overage defenceman Josh Wainman from the Hamilton Bulldogs.

In exchange the Bulldogs receive a 10th round pick in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection. That pick originally belonged to the Barrie Colts.

Wainman is a six-foot, 183-pound defenceman from Peterborough. He was the Erie Otters fourth round pick in the 2015 draft and was traded to Hamilton at the beginning of last season.

In 2018-2019 he had one goal and nine assists in 63 games.

Guelph now has eight defencemen on the roster but general manager/coach George Burnett said there is no other moves planned at this time.

"We have Owen (Lalonde) battling some sickness and we've got a lot of kids back there so we're just trying to support them and insulate them a little bit with some experience," Burnett said in an interview.

In the news release about the deal Burnett said that "Josh is a welcome addition to our team who adds depth and a veteran presence to our blueline. With five years of OHL experience and almost 200 games played, he is a proven veteran in our league who will help in the development of our younger players.”

The Storm next plays Friday night at home against the Owen Sound Attack.
