The Guelph Storm selected Russian winger Alexey Toropchenko with the fourth overall pick in the Canadian Hockey League Import Draft Wednesday.

The six-foot-three, 185-pound, left left shot was a fourth round pick of the St. Louis Blues in last week's National Hockey League Draft.

Playing in the top Russian junior league last season he led his team in scoring with 19 goals and had 12 assists. He had two assists playing for Russia at the World Under-18 Hockey Championships.

“Alexei possesses an intriguing combination of size, skating and excellent hockey sense,” Storm general manager/coach George Burnett said in a news release. “He is a powerful presence on the ice and we expect him to have an impact on our lineup this season.”

The Storm made room for Toropchenko earlier this week by releasing Albert Michnac.

Toropchenko is currently attending the St. Louis Blues development camp.
