Guelph Storm bounces back in Saginaw

SAGINAW, MI. – Matt Poitras eighth goal of the season late in the second period proved to be the winner as the Guelph Storm downed the Saginaw Spirit 2-1 at the Dow Event Centre Saturday.

Sasha Pastujov corralled the puck behind the Saginaw net and found Poitras all alone in the slot for the game winner at 18:48 of the second.

With the win Guelph improves to 14-7-1-1, three points back of the Western Conference-leading London Knights. The seventh-place spirit are 10-9-1-0.

Saginaw opened the scoring on a power play goal by Pavel Mintyukov late in the first period. Guelph Matt Papais tide things up 5:31 into the second.

Jacob Oster earned the win in the Guelph net, stopping 16 shots. Tristan Lennox made 24 saves in the Saginaw net.

Guelph hosts the Sarnia Sting on Wednesday and Saginaw on Friday. Saturday they are in London.
