Guelph Storm falls in a shootout

Rally from three-goal deficit to down tie Wolves but come up short in the shootout

SUDBURY - The Sudbury Wolves downed the Guelph Storm 5-4 in a shootout Saturday.

Sudbury won the shootout 3-2, with the shootout going eight rounds.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first period before a crazy second period that saw both teams score three times.

Sudbury netted three goals in a span of 4:26 then Guelph put three in a row past Sudbury goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen in a span of 7:54.

Ryan Merkley, Isaac Ratcliffe, Keegan Stevenson and Dmitri Samorukov scored for Guelph.

For the second consecutive game, Storm starting goaltender Anthony Popovich got the hook, being replaced by Nico Daws after the third Sudbury goal.

Gueph plays in Owen Sound on Tuesday. Friday they are home to the Peterborough Petes.
