The Guelph Storm has fired head scout Chris McCleary.

He had been with the team for 14 seasons, the last 10 as head scout.

New Storm general manager and coach George Burnett said he expects to have a new head of scouting by the end of the month.

"The process has started ... hopefully by the end of the month we'll have a plan in place. We're going to do it slowly here."

McCleary becomes the first person on the hockey operations side to be let go since Burnett took over.

"Chris and I did meet (Thursday) and I informed him we were going to make a change," Burnett said.

"Certainly nothing personal. Chris has had a great history with the program and I think it's just a simple thing that I'm going to put my own person in place and develop a scouting plan here that I'm still in the process of developing that.

"He was extremely professional about it. I've had great respect for Chris. He's worked very hard for the organization for many years."

Reached by phone, McCleary only said that he has appreciated all his time in the "wonderful" Storm organization and will look forward to the next challenge.
