On March 15, join the Guelph Storm at the Sleeman Centre where they will take on the London Knights at 7 p.m. in the second annual Project Shutout Hunger for Chalmers, a local food pantry supporting local residents who are experiencing food insecurity (sponsored by Meridian Credit Union).

Proceeds from the event, which include 50/50 ticket sales, a puck toss, and other attractions, will go directly to Chalmers, who will use the funds raised to purchase nutritious food items and other necessities for individuals and families in Guelph who are experiencing food insecurity.

Local residents can participate by:

  1. Purchasing a 50/50 ticket
  2. Purchasing a Chalmers toque at the game
  3. Purchasing a “Chuck a Puck” at the game with the chance to win a $500 Meridian Investment Certificate and a Family Game Night prize basket
  4. Visiting the Meridian Hockey Card Photo Booth to have a customized hockey card made

Game attendees are also encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to the game, such as canned tomatoes, pasta sauce, canned beans or other essentials such as toilet paper, sanitary products, toothpaste and diapers.

A complete list is available on the website.

Chalmers is a local not-for-profit registered charity that runs a food pantry program three times a week at two locations in Guelph.

Each week, volunteers distribute fresh fruit and produce, meat, bread, dairy and non-perishable food products to local residents in need.

In 2022, local residents utilized this service almost 16,000 times and benefited from over 153,000 pounds of food donated by local Guelph residents, organizations, businesses, farms and church gardens.

As the cost of the average grocery bill has soared due to inflation, we have seen an increase in local residents who are in need of our services.
