The Guelph Storm has acquired overage goaltender Liam Herbst from the Ottawa 67’s.
In return the Storm sends a fourth round draft pick in the 2017 draft to Ottawa.
Herbst was a first round pick (22nd overall) of the London Knights in the 2012 OHL draft but battled injuries that required surgery and he didn’t play his rookie year. London traded him to Ottawa in 2014.
Last season in Ottawa the six-foot-four, 205-pound Etobicoke native played in 29 games, posting a 10-13-1-1 record, 3.42 goals-against average and 0.881 save percentage.
In 2014-15, Herbst played a career high 39 games with the 67’s putting up a 24-8-3-1 record, a 0.901 save percentage and 2.76 goals-against average.
He has played in a total of 78 regular season OHL games and has a 0.888 save percentage and 3.32 goals-against average, with four career shutouts.
"We are very excited to be able to add Liam to our 2016-17 roster,” Storm general manager Mike Kelly said in a press release.
“Liam is a goalie that we have coveted since his draft year and we feel that he will provide us with outstanding goaltending and leadership. We welcome Liam and his family to the city of Guelph and the Storm organization.”
