WINDSOR – Matt Poitras scored a hat trick and Hunter McKenzie potted his first OHL goal as the Guelph Storm kicked off the second half of its season with a big 5-3 win over the Windsor Spitfires Wednesday night.

Guelph never trailed in the game, leading 3-2 after one period and 5-3 after two.

It was Poitras' third of the game late in the second period that proved the winner. McKenzie, the Storm's second round draft pick this year, added insurance with a hard wrister from the high slot 66 seconds later.

Jacob Oster made 24 saves in the Guelph net for the victory.

Matt Onuska played the first two periods for Windsor before being replaced to start the third.

One sour note for the Storm, with defenceman Cam Allen skating off in discomfort late in the second period following contact with a Windsor player and not returning the rest of the game.

The same two teams play in Guelph Friday night.
