After a 4 -2 victory over Waterloo, Guelph United is only one win away from clinching a spot in the League1 Ontario post-season!

In a playoff race where only wins will do, Guelph United made no mistakes as they secured maximum points against BVB IA Waterloo at Warrior’s Field. Despite a rocky start which saw Waterloo score in the early minutes of the match, Guelph found their rhythm and quickly turned the tables.

Waterloo opened the scoring just four minutes into the match as Bai Essa Coker snuck a goal underneath Svyatik Artemenko’s outstretched arms.

Guelph answered Waterloo’s early lead with three consecutive goals. Evan Dick would find the back of Waterloo’s net first as he fired a long shot past goalkeeper Jefferey Omoregie-Sanni in the 27th minute. Jared Agyemang followed up Dick’s goal less than two minutes later to give Guelph the lead.

The end of the first half saw goals for both teams as Agyemang scored his second of the night, and Waterloo answered back with a quick goal seconds before the halftime whistle was blown.

The second half saw a stalemate between the two teams, with neither scoring despite plenty of chances until injury time. Camilo Vasconcelos would then put the nail in Waterloo’s coffin as he scored his second of the season to give Guelph a 4-2 victory.

Guelph now returns home to host Darby FC in their final regular season match-up Friday at Alumni Stadium.
