After 165 days, the boys are back! Guelph’s pro-am soccer team, Guelph United F.C., will be kicking off their season on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. at Alumni Stadium against the league’s newest expansion team, Peterborough’s Electric City F.C. As the reigning League1 Ontario men's champions, Guelph United is looking forward to defending their crown and playing for the city of Guelph!
The majority of the championship team is returning this year, including Jace Kotsopoulos, Tomasz Skublak, Alexander Zis, and fan-favourite, Amardo Oakley, bolstered by new signings such as Marcel Zajac, Mark Maletic, Sam Spoelstra, Owen Sheppard, and Tedi Lisi. Head Coach Keith Mason is “confident in the group of guys on the squad this year [... and] is excited to see them on the field.” The team will be without star goalkeeper Svyatik Artemenko, a key component of last year’s success, who has been fighting with the Ukraine forces to protect Ukraine and repel the Russian invasion. As part of the organization’s ongoing United for Ukraine fundraiser in honour of our #1 Artemenko, $2.00 from every ticket sold to the home opener (Thursday, April 21) will be donated to the Ukraine Red Cross relief fund.
This year, Guelph United FC is playing a total of eleven home games and a Canadian Championship game at Alumni Stadium (their schedule can be found here). We hope to see the city of Guelph come out to cheer on the reigning champions as it is sure to be an exciting season! Tickets can be purchased online at guelphunitedfc.ca to save $2.00 off or on game day at the stadium, and the first 200 fans at the home opener will receive a free championship t-shirt.
