Thursday night, the reigning League1 Ontario champions Guelph United FC took on Peterborough’s Electric City FC in front of an enthusiastic crowd at Alumni Stadium! While there were a number of scoring chances for both teams throughout the 90 minutes, neither could break the stalemate and the match concluded 0-0. Both teams will earn a point in League1 Ontario men’s standings for their performance.

It was a typical first game of the season, intriguing but not always the most exciting as both teams look to develop chemistry and find their rhythms. Guelph United’s head coach Keith Mason said the team had some first-game nerves which needed to be shaken off, but that he is proud of his team and their game.

After a few tactical changes during halftime, the team settled down and began to exercise more control over the play during the second half. The match saw great performances from De Vante Walker, Jace Kotsopoulos and Amardo Oakley, as well as from new signings Marcel Zajac and Marko Maletic.

Additionally, goalkeeper Sam Spoelstra did a great job controlling his box and distributing the ball.

Guelph United FC will take the show on the road as they face Alliance United FC on Saturday, April 30 at 6 p.m.

The team’s next home game is on May 10 where GUFC will host the Canadian Premier League’s H.F.X. Wanderers as part of the Canadian Championship, with the winner going on to face Toronto FC in round two.
