Hurricanes open season with a win and a loss

Home opener goes Thursday night at the Sleeman Centre

The junior B Guelph Hurricanes kicked off their season with a win and a loss at the London Showcase Tournament on the weekend.

On Sunday they hammered the Ancaster Avalanche 10-6, led by a hat trick from newcomer Jason Stachelbeck. Cam Stokes, with two, Lucas Pozzobon, Lucas Dybowski, Harlen VanWynsberghe, Jaxon Camp and Ben Maidment had the other Guelph goals.

Anthony Mota had three assists while Brett Hunter, Kevin Gergely and Pozzobon had two each.

Kristian Hufsky made 29 saves for the win in net.

They opened with a 4-3 loss to the St. Thomas Stars on Saturday, with the winning goal coming at 19:17 of the third period.

Mota had a pair of goals and Stachelbeck the other.

Nick Redman made 29 saves in the loss.

The Hurricanes host Cambridge in their home opener Thursday at the Sleeman Centre.
