KITCHENER – The Guelph Storm fired 39 shots at rookie Kitchener Rangers goaltender Marcus Vendenberg Tuesday night but could only beat him once, falling 4-1.

The loss moves Guelph (9-15-2-1) back into last place in the Western Conference, one point back of Kitchener and three points back of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds for he last playof spot.

The game was tied 1-1 after one period on teddy bear toss night in Kitchener and the Rangers led 2-1 after two.

A pair of goals in the first 2:18 of the third period put the game out of reach.

Michael Buchinger had the lone Guelph goal and Jacob Oster had 34 saves.

The Stom hosts Owen Sound on Friday, plays in Owen Sound Saturday, then hosts Ottawa Sunday afternoon.
