McLaren delivers key hit as Royals down Baycats

Comes through with two-run single with two out in the ninth inning

Chandler McLaren delivered a two-out walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Guelph Royals over the Barrie Baycats 6-5 at Hastings Stadium Tuesday night.

With two outs and the Royals trailing 5-4, Guelph got singles from Tino Silvestri, Kingsley Alarcon and Keegan Marsden hit consecutive singles to set the stage for McLaren’s heroics, delivering the key hit off Baycats reliever Jaspreet Shergill.

McLaren went four for five on the night. Marsden earlier had a home run.

AJ Mackey earned the win on the mound for Guelph, pitching a complete game. He scattered nine hits, striking out three and walking four.

Guelph, now 4-7 on the season, plays in Barrie Thursday and hosts the London Majors Saturday at 1 p.m.
