Nighthawks back to .500 with home court win

Score 25 points from the free-throw line to down Montreal by two; host Newfoundland on Tuesday

The Guelph Nighthawks hit nine free throws during Elam Time Saturday as they got back to .500 with an 86-84 win over the Montreal Alliance at the Sleeman Centre.

“They hit 15 [threes] last time and our focus was to eliminate that threat,” Nighthawks’ coach Charles Kissi said in a news release. “We were going to live with the post-ups today and they hit six threes. We did a good job taking away those looks.”

Ahmed Hill led Guelph with 28 points to go with eight rebounds. AJ Lawson added 18 points and six assists, with TJ Lall contributing 17 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Cat Barber struggled from the field with 3-14 shooting, finishing the game with 13 points and 5 assists.

Guelph went 25-28 from the line on the afternoon.

Official attendance was 1,287.

Guelph hosts Newfoundland on Tuesday then travels to Ottawa on Thursday.
