Rough start to season for Guelph Royals

Loss to Panthers leaves them 0-2 to start the year

The Guelph Royals dropped their second consecutive game to start the season Monday at Hastings Stadium, falling to the Kitchener Panthers 8-1.

On Saturday they opened their Intercounty Baseball League campaign with a 16-0 loss to the London Majors.

Once again, walks were a major issue for Royals' pitchers, as they surrendered 10 base on balls to Kitchener batters, the same amount they gave up in their first game of the season.

Three errors and the inability to turn two tailor-made double play ground balls also contributed.

At the plate the Royals had six hits, two of them off the bat of Marquis Kidd. They had one on Saturday.

Guelph used seven different pitchers, with starter Cam Gray taking the loss. He lasted just one and two-thirds innings, giving up three runs.

Jasvir Rakkar got the win for the Panthers, giving up two hits in five innings of work.

Guelph plays in Barrie on Thursday. The Toronto Maple Leafs visit Hastings Stadium on Saturday.
