The Guelph Royals scored a pair of big wins on the weekend.
Sunday night on the road they downed the Barrie Baycats 15-3 and on Saturday at home they beat the Hamilton Cardinals 8-4. They are now 6-4 on the season.
The Royals opened Sunday's game with four runs in the first, highlighted by Malik Collymore’s two-run double. Collymore finished a triple short of the cycle and drove in five.
A five-run fifth, which started with Darius Barlas’ single that scored two runs, effectively put the game out of reach. Barlas added a third RBI and scored once.
J.D. Williams drove in a run, scored twice and added a pair of stolen bases, Claudio Custodio went 3-for-6 with three runs and two RBI, Dalton Pompey had three hits, three runs and an RBI, Justin Interisano drove in a run and scored, Ethan Hammond picked up three hits, an RBI and a run, Noah Roberts had two hits and Brando Leroux went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Emilis Guerrero (2-1) went seven scoreless innings for the win. He scattered seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
On Saturday, Custodio did it all.
The 31-year-old Dominican struck out 12 over eight innings and drove in two runs at the plate in Guelph's 8-4 win. Custodio singled twice, scored once and also stole a base.
On the mound, he improved to 3-0 after allowing three runs on six hits without issuing a walk.
Hammond went 3-for-5 with two RBI, Brandon Leroux had two hits, an RBI and a run, Pompey went 2-for-5 and scored once.
Guelph hosts Welland on Tuesday.
