Guelph Soccer is the latest local sports club to join the Guelph Gryphons family.

The University of Guelph and Guelph Soccer are now partners, with all of Guelph Soccer's rep teams now known as the Junior Gryphons.

They have always been known as the Guelph Royals.

The club will also switch to Gryphon colours.

Minor soccer joins Guelph Minor Hockey, Guelph Girls Hockey, Guelph Youth Volleyball, Guelph Youth Basketball and Guelph Minor Football under the Junior Gryphons banner.

In a press release, the U of G said the partnership "is a chance to share resources, branding and a vision for the development of the sport and of soccer players here in Guelph."

"We are very excited to announce this partnership with such an exceptional organization," said Scott McRoberts, University of Guelph Director of Athletics in the press release.

"Their values and vision for the future align with ours as a department, while embodying the development of our youth in this great city. We truly look forward to the growth of this partnership and growing the game of soccer in Guelph, while providing mentorship from our athletes to all Junior Gryphons."

"We are so excited to be a part of the Guelph Jr Gryphons Program," said Ted Gendron, Executive Director of Guelph Soccer in making the announcement. "This partnership is unique to soccer clubs in Canada and we think it is a significant step toward creating alignment from the community level, right up to the varsity level."
