KITCHENER – The score didn't really do the Guelph Storm's effort justice Tuesday night at The Aud.
The rejuvinated Kitchener Rangers downed the Storm 4-1 in a game that saw the Storm play two excellent periods of hockey.
It was a goaltending duel, as Kitchener's Marco Costantini and Guelph's Patrick Leaver both played superb games. While the shot totals weren't that high – 27-24 in favour of Guelph – the quality of the shots certainly were, with both goalies making several huge saves.
The Rangers led 2-0 after the first period before the Storm came out flying in the second, rewarded by a Max Namestnikov goal.
It looked like only a matter of time before the buzzing Storm would tie it, but a Mitch Martin goal at 9:08 of the second period restored KItchener's two-goal lead.
Guelph pressured the rest of the way, but couldn't find an answer to Costantini.
An empty net goal iced the victory.
Adding insult to injury, former Storm forward Danny Zhilkin had a goal and an assist for the Rangers.
Guelph will host the Windsor Spitfires Friday night.
