Storm falters Sunday in Saginaw

Former teammate scores the winner as Guelph loses two of its three weekend games

SAGINAW, MI - The Saginaw Spirit scored twice in the third period to pull out a 4-2 win over the Guelph Storm Sunday at the Dow Event Centre.

Former Storm defenceman C.J. Garcia scored the winner at 6:31 of the third period and Hayden Hodgson iced it into an empty net.

Saginaw led 1-0 midway through the first period before Givani Smith tied the game at 16:51 of the first, assisted by Isaac Ratcliffe and Kyle Rhodes.

Ratcliffe gave Storm a brief lead at 11:02 of the second with a power play goa, assisted by Noah Carroll and Garrett McFadden.

Giroux's second of the game at 13:40 of the second tied things up.

Liam Herbst made 36 saves in the Guelph net and Brendan Bonello had 27 for Saginaw.

There were just six minor penalties called in the game, two of them to Guelph.

Next game is Friday at home against the Erie Otters.
