SUDBURY – The Sudbury Wolves scored two unanswered goals in the second period then hung on to beat the Guelph Storm 3-2 Sunday afternoon.

Guelph’s Nate Schnarr, on the power play, opened the scoring and Sudbury’s Kiril Nizhnikov tied it up before the first period was over.

Drake Pilon, from a sharp angle, and Shane Bulitka, on a tip of a point shot, made it 3-1 after two.

With the goalie pulled and the Storm already on the power play, Tag Bertuzzi made it 3-2 with 36 seconds left in regulation but the Wolves hung on.

Guelph outshot Sudbury 16-3 in the third period.

Garrett McFadden had two assists for the Storm

Anthony Popovich made 18 saves in the Storm net while Jake McGrath made 31 for Sudbury.

Guelph plays the Niagara IceDogs on the road Thursday then hosts the Owen Sound Attack on Friday.
