WINDSOR — The Windsor Spitfires outscored the Guelph Storm 3-2 in the shootout to come away with a 2-1 win over the Guelph Storm Saturday night in Windsor.

Guelph’s first two shooter scored, but the next six were all stopped by Windsor goaltender Michael DiPietro.

Windsor’s Chris Playfair and Guelph’s Isaac Ratcliffe exchanged second period goals in regulation.

The game took an odd turn in overtime.

Windsor’s Cody Morgan was awarded a penalty shot after being cross-checked from behind on a breakaway.

Guelph goaltender Anthony Popovich broke a skate blade on the play and backup Nico Daws had to come in and face the penalty shot, which he stopped.

Popovich, with his skate fixed, then returned to the crease for the remainder of overtime and the shootout.

Guelph plays a school day game in Mississauga on Wednesday and hosts the Flint Firebirds on Friday.
