Three Gryphons take gold at CIS wrestling championships

Carrow leads the way by defending her CIS crown as U of G takes five medals in total

Three Gryphon wrestlers took gold at the CIS wrestling championships Saturday at Brock University.

The Gryphon women finished third in the team standings on the women's side while the men finished tied for third in the team standings.

Third-year wrester Alison Carrow successfully defender her CIS title by defeating Jessica Brouilette of the hometown Badgers. On the men's side, Tyson Frost was crowned the CIS heavyweight champion in the 120kg weight class while third-year wrestler Oren Furmanov took the 54kg weight class.

Gryph women Jade Papke (51kg) and Gracelynn Doogan (72kg) rounded out the U of G medalists as they took home silvers.

The host Brock Badgers swept the team banners for a record third consecutive year.
