Ash Calvert leads way, Canada beats Chile at Americas Championship

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Ash Calvert scored 26 points from two tries and nine goals as the Canada Wolverines downed Chile 62-12 on Saturday to finish third at the Americas Rugby League Championship.

The Canadians scored 11 tries in all, including two apiece from Michael Mastroianni and Sean McInroy. Rick Shouten, Christian Miller, Rhys Jacks, Shaun McKenzie and Joel Hulett added singles.

"Ash ran the show, and three tries in four minutes in the second half put the game to bed," said Canada head coach Benjamin Fleming.

"We defended with some intent, which was pleasing and we now need to continue to build for the future."

Later in the day Jamaica beat the host United States 16-10 to win the 2018 Americas Championship and qualify for the 2021 Rugby League World Cup in England.

Canada lost 38-8 to Jamaica on Tuesday, eliminating the Canadians from World Cup contention.
