Brooklyn Moors earns two medals, Canada takes home three at World Challenge Cup

HUNGARY, Hungary — Brooklyn Moors led Canada at the artistic gymnastics World Challenge Cup by winning a gold and bronze medal at the weekend competition.

Moors, from Cambridge, Ont., captured the bronze medal on vault Saturday before taking home top prize on floor Sunday.

Moors's overall score on floor had her tied with Olympian Catalina Ponor of Romania, but her increased level of difficulty gave her the advantage and the gold medal.

"This was my first World Challenge Cup, so it was a new experience for me," said Moors. "I had an uncomfortable landing on vault during podium training so I'm really pleased that I was able pull through and qualify to two events.

"I'm excited that I was able to perform a good routine and take the gold medal on floor exercise."

Rio 2016 Olympian Rose Woo of Brossard, Que., added a third medal for Canada, claiming a bronze medal in the uneven bars on Saturday.

"I'm happy that I was able to do my routines well and I'm pleased that they are at this level at this point in the season, as it's still early," said Woo. "I feel that I'm on the right path in my progress for the season. I was very happy for my medal on uneven bars, the competition here was at a high level so winning a medal was very satisfying."

Rene Cournoyer of Repentigny, Que., made the finals in rings and high bar but failed to medal in either event.

Thierry Pellerin of Levis, Que., finished 26th overall in the pommel horse event.

Canada hosts this year's world championships in Montreal, starting Oct. 2.
