Calgary's Lee loses in quarterfinal of U.S. women's amateur golf championship

NASHVILLE — Calgary's Jaclyn Lee lost to American Kaylee Benton 3 and 2 in their head-to-head quarterfinal matchup on Friday in the US women's amateur golf championship.

Lee held the lead twice, first getting a birdie on the par-4 No. 1 and again on the par-3 No. 8.

Things came apart after that, though, as she bogeyed No. 9, allowing Benton to tie it. She also double bogeyed the par-5 No. 10 as Benton racked up five better holes.

Kristen Gillman topped fellow American Lucy Li in 19 holes, Lauren Stephenson of the U.S. bested American Lauren Greenlief 2 and 1, while South Korea's Jiwon Jeon downed Gurleen Kaur of the U.S. in 19 holes.
