Kent Farrington comes out on top of jump off to win Grand Prix at Spruce Meadows

CALGARY — World No. 1 Kent Farrington came out on top of a three-way jump off, edging Canada's Lisa Carlsen and Japan's Karen Polle to capture the RBC Grand Prix at Spruce Meadows on Saturday.

Carlsen, who hails from Toronto, posted the first clear round of the competition until Polle and Farrington matched the feat.

Carlsen, who was first to tackle the jump-off track, laid down a clean ride with a time of 54.72 seconds. Polle followed with a time of 48.52 but hit a rail in the combination, leaving the door open for Farrington who took home the win with a perfect run in 49.94.

The 37-year-old from Chicago, who was riding Gazelle, has been working to climb back up the equestrian standings after breaking his leg earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Juan Jose Zendejas of Mexico captured the TransCanada U25 Winning Round ahead of Carlos Hank Guerreiro, also of Mexico.

Sunday is the final day of the Spruce Meadows.
