OTTAWA — Rick Campbell left his Ottawa Redblacks with a final message Saturday.
Following the CFL team's walkthrough at TD Place, Campbell gathered his players and coaches at centre field. There, the Redblacks' chaplin talked about the significance of Saturday, which was Remembrance Day.
Then at 11 a.m. ET, everyone recognized a moment of silence. The Riders did the same at their walkthrough, tweeting a video of their coaches and and players standing with heads lowered with the message, 'We remember & honour, all those who have and continue to sacrifice their lives for our country.'
Campbell, an American, said it was important for the organization to pay their respects to military personnel on both sides of the border.
"We wanted to take a moment to recognize what was going on and the sacrifice people have made," he said. "I thought it was important for our players and our coaches.
"There's a lot of people who came before us that made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can be here today and do things, fun things like do football games on a Sunday afternoon and have a great time. I just wanted to make sure that was properly recognized."
Ottawa and Saskatchewan will meet Sunday in the East Division semifinal at TD Place. The winner will face the Toronto Argonauts next weekend in the conference final.
