BRADENTON, Fla. — Substitute Reilyn Turner scored in the 65th minute as the United States beat Canada 1-0 on Friday in the group stage of the CONCACAF women's under-17 championship.
Turner put away a header on a corner kick for the winner as the U.S. improved to 3-0 atop Group B.
Canada sits second with wins over Bermuda and Costa Rica and, despite the loss to the Americans, will advance to the semifinal.
The Canadians will face Mexico in the semi on Sunday. The winner of that match will automatically qualify for a spot at the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Uruguay later this year.
"We can now look ahead to Mexico, we know that they are a good side and that we will have to be at our best to get to the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Uruguay 2018," said Bev Priestman, Canada Soccer's women's national EXCEL director U-15 to U-23.
"We closed the group with a real resilient performance against USA while starting eight new players and using that depth in our squad. We are so proud of our squad."
Also on Friday, Costa Rica routed Bermuda 6-1 and Mexico and Haiti played to a 1-1 draw.
Mexico finished first in Group A, defeating Nicaragua 8-0 and Puerto Rico 7-0 before Friday's draw with Haiti.
Both Mexico and Haiti finished group play with two wins and one draw, with Mexico taking the top spot with a superior goal difference.
