USports: McMaster rallies past Montreal in men's volleyball quarterfinal

HAMILTON — Brandon Koppers had 20 kills and hit .317 to lead the McMaster Marauders to a 3-2 rally over the Montreal Carabins on Friday in the quarterfinals of the Canadian university men's volleyball championship.

Koppers finished with two aces and two and a half blocks for 25.5 points to help McMaster overcome a two-set deficit.

Godefroy Veyron-Trudel led Montreal with 25 kills and 26 points, while setter Gabriel Chancy had 45 assists.

Also, the UBC Thunderbirds picked up a three-set victory over the UNB Varsity Reds.

UBC put together set scores of 25-11, 25-14, 25-19 in their opening match to advance to the semifinals.

Alberta dashed Queen's hopes, advances to semifinals with 3-1 win and Trinity Western rallied past Windsor for 3-1 victory.

McMaster plays Trinity-Western in Saturday's first semifinal then UBC faces Alberta.
