SEATTLE — Canadian teenage star Alphonso Davies sat out the Vancouver Whitecaps' 2-0 loss to the Seattle Sounders on Saturday afternoon.

Prior to the game, the team announced on Twitter that Davies had the "club's permission" to miss the match.

Whitecaps head coach Carl Robinson said after the game that the 17-year-old had remained in Vancouver.

"I think you'll read a little bit more news in the coming day or two, but obviously it's positive for him and us," he said.

Davies, a midfielder, has three goals and eight assists in 20 games with Vancouver this season. He was named to the MLS all-star team last month.

Robinson said it was evident the club missed his presence Saturday.

Davies was also absent from training Friday.

Robinson didn't rule out looking to the transfer market to infuse some talent into the club, which lost for the fourth time in the last five games.

"If it's the right player available, I'd bring him in now," he said.

"If we can great, if we don't, listen we'll just have to soldier on."
