December 1, 1955 – January 16, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle: Eligio (Bhoy) Alcantara.
Eligio (Bhoy) Alcantara quietly passed away on January 16th, 2023 at 10:28 pm in the loving arms of his wife, Perpetua Mesina Alcantara at the Guelph General Hospital where he was battling diabetes related health complications. Eligio is reunited in heaven with his parents, Iluminada and Nazario Alcantara, and his late son, Jeffrey, who passed away on August 22, 2022.

Born on December 1, 1955 in Quezon City, Philippines, Eligio is the second oldest of four children born to Iluminada and Nazario Alcantara. His older sister, Dolores Santiago, is deceased and he is survived by his younger siblings - Ascension and Renato Alcantara.

Eligio met his childhood sweetheart, Perpetua Mesina, in 1969 during their second year of high school. They wed on May 16th, 1976, after which they had three children - Jing, Jeffrey and Marylaine Alcantara Buslon. They have been happily married for 47 years. Eligio is a loving and adoring grandfather to his six grandchildren: John Lloyd and Nicole Alcantara; Angelo, Shawn, and JM Buslon; and Jerome Alcantara. He is fondly respected and loved as Kuya Bhoy to many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Eligio is a quiet man with a strong commitment to family values. His need to provide for his family inspired his sense of adventure as he ventured off to Saudi Arabia from 1995 to 2006 where he worked as a private chauffeur. From there, he returned to the Philippines for 6 years and on April 1st, 2012, his adventure continued in Guelph, Canada where he worked as a machine operator for the Linamar Corporation.

Eligio loved the simple pleasures in life – he loved his wife and his family, and he loved good company. Eligio would have the biggest grin especially when he is enjoying his favourite foods like Goldilocks, lechon and crispy pasta.

Eligio is lovingly remembered by his wife, his family and his extended family in Canada, United States, and the Philippines. He will be dearly missed by all.
Special thanks to the wonderful healthcare teams that assisted Eligio including the Guelph General Hospital Intensive Care Unit and the Kitchener St. Mary Hospital Intensive Care Unit.
