It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Paul Leonard Ariss in his 78th year on August 25th at the Hospice Wellington while holding his daughter Nancy’s hand. His strength, determination, and willpower gave him almost 5 years more time from a terminal cancer diagnosis. His beloved wife Elaine, passed less than 6 months ago after receiving the same diagnosis the year before.
They met 60 years ago this upcoming Labour Day long weekend as young teenagers. A second date was not anticipated, but that changed when young, charming Paul swooned Elaine with a puppy dog at her door step.
Paul’s saving grace was meeting Elaine and having her by his side to weather the ups and downs of life. A beautiful romance and love gave these two young sweethearts a life they could have never have imagined.
Paul became self-employed at 20 years old, and started his own construction business after acquiring many skills from working at his father's contracting company, and from also attending George Brown College in Toronto.
He instilled many valuable life lessons in his children; Nancy, David (2006), and adored Grandchildren; Meaghan and Noah. These wonderful qualities are strength, loyalty, humor, love, kindness, courage, empathy, wisdom and respect. His motto in life was “keep it simple”.
He loved to live life and enjoyed many beautiful days on his sundeck with a cup of coffee in hand. Basking in the sunshine, he adored watching the birds and making memories with his beloved Elaine. They loved to feel the warmth of the sun. This took them to many winters in Florida both in younger years and later in life, via motorcycle, motorhome or by car.
Having made a career change midlife at 45 and being a lifelong learner with his love for horses, Paul became an apprentice in the harness racing industry. This passion led to another successful business, which allowed he and Elaine to work together side by side. Elaine cautiously mucked the stalls whilst Paul trained his own stable of horses for the next 20 years.
Like all good stories it comes to an end. Paul and Elaine are now reunited dancing in the stars.
Paul leaves behind siblings; Jane Ariss, Michelle Ariss, Jeff Ariss and Ray Ariss. Sister-in-law; Judy (Craig Haddock). Reunited with his parents; Len Ariss (2008) and Irene Ariss (2014).

Arrangements entrusted to the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com. A private outdoor service following Covid protocols will be held on August 31st at the Woodlawn Memorial Park Cremation Gardens. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Hospice Wellington in Paul’s memory if you wish.
A tree will be planted in memory of Paul Ariss in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
