Born June 5th, 1969 passed away peacefully in the late evening Wednesday, January 18th, after her year and a half long battle with cancer.
She leaves behind her sons James (Jen) and Simon, beloved grandchildren Lily and Bradley, father Kenneth, siblings Paul, Dave, Kelly and their spouses and families, and Melody and Rick Kennedy and their family.
Theresa had a long, fulfilling career as an elementary school teacher. Over the years, she formed some close friendships with her colleagues and made innumerable special bonds with her students. She especially loved her time coaching basketball, football, and soccer teams. Theresa was an avid runner, finding peace out on the trails in nature. Reading and crafting were among her favourite pastimes.
Theresa’s fondest memories were times spent with family. She was lucky enough to take a very special trip this past October to Churchill, Manitoba, to see polar bears with her two sons. Theresa had a lifelong affinity to bears that was proudly shown in the decorations and artwork of her home. This stemmed from a nickname her father still uses to this day “Theresa Bear,” or simply, “Bear”. She was such a loving and supporting mother and grandmother. She cherished the many sleepovers and holidays with her grandchildren and has had such a strong, positive influence on their young lives. She will be deeply missed.
Friends will be received at the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph, for visitation on Thursday, January 26th from 6:00-8:00pm. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, January 28th at 11:00am. Reception to follow in the Wall-Custance Family Reception Centre.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Hospice Wellington and her oncology team at Juravinski Cancer Centre.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations on Theresa’s behalf to Hospice Wellington.
A tree will be planted in memory of Theresa M. Barbour in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
