BAST, Dorothy Millicent (Skoyles)

Posted

Dorothy Millicent Bast, mother of Cheryl and Brad, avid bridge player, died on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Wellington Terrace Long Term Care, Fergus. Born December 4, 1918 in London, England. Dorothy lived in London through to the end of the war. During the war in Chiswick, a suburb of London, she survived the nightly air raids of the "blitz". Many a night was spent in the back yard "Anderson Shelter" or under the "Morrison Table" in the kitchen. She also lived within a few miles of the site where the first V2 rocket landed in London. After the war, Dorothy came to Canada as a "war bride" working at B.F. Goodrich with Betty Brutzki (nee Bast). Through Betty, she would meet her husband to be, Raymond Harold Bast, sharing 63 years together until Raymond's passing June 28, 2013. Dorothy, a dedicated wife and mother, strong realist, is survived by her two children Cheryl (Brian Dolmer), Guelph, and Brad (Reinouw Bast-Tjeerde), Ottawa.

Respecting Dorothy's wishers, she has been cremated and there will be no funeral or visitation. Our thanks to all the staff at Wellington Terrace for their outstanding care in her final years. Donations in Dorothy's memory can be made to the Salvation Army or to Wellington Terrace Long Term Care, Fergus.
