With sad hearts, but with thanks for his 90+ years as a Guelph native, we mark the death of John Downey Callaghan. John was a man of his generation: steadfast, modest, and generous. He was a much loved father of Julie and Cathy, grandfather of Elizabeth and Sophie, husband of the late Dorothy and son of the late John A. and Elizabeth. He was always optimistic, enjoying time with family, a game of euchre, keeping up with local news, and cheering on the Guelph Storm. His family thanks the LHIN and PSWs who helped him live independently and the Emergency and ICU Staff at Guelph General Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.
A Funeral Mass for John will be held at St. Joseph’s Church, 409 Paisley Rd, Guelph on Friday, November 16 at 10:30 a.m., with a reception to follow downstairs. Private interment will be held at Marymount Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul, or to St. Joseph’s Church.
