Passed peacefully at home, a week short of his 93rd birthday, on Thursday, January 10, 2019.
Dr. Romolo Carere was the beloved husband of Madeleine (Lapointe) Carere. Dear father of Paula (Frank Morris), Ron (Wendy), Claudia (Peter Sellar), Marc (Helen), Monica (Chris Stoeckle) and Cosmo (Karen). Loved grandpa of Matthew, Emily, Dominique, Andrew, Luke, Bronwyn, Aiden, Giacomo, D.D., Eve, Madeleine, Nico and Marcus and great-grandpa of Anna Bella, Cosmo, Sophia, Jessica and Luciano. He was the dear brother of Chester (Shirley), Catherine Sherlock (late James) and Rita Stilo (Frank) and pre-deceased by brothers and sisters William (Josephine), Cosmo (Elsie), Jack (Ella), Frank (Victoria), Mary Tessaro (Peter) and Fortunata.
Following his early years at Sacred Heart School and GCVI , with the guidance of Father Hill, Ron attended St. Michael’s College and went on to Medical School at the University of Ottawa where he graduated in 1954. He returned to serve the Guelph community for the next 50 years. He lent his intellect and curiosity to bring leading heath care to our community.
His career embodied dedication, compassion and wisdom. With his life long companion Madeleine, he modeled the values of family, friendship and the pursuit of knowledge. He will never be forgotten by his family and will long be remembered by many friends and colleagues. The deep bond he shared with his brother Chester, sisters Catherine and Rita and great friends are an inspiration to all .
Private cremation has taken place and a family service will be held in Quebec at a later date. If so desired, memorial donations made to Basilica of Our Lady Building Fund, St. Joseph's Health Care Foundation or the Guelph General Hospital would be greatly appreciated by his family.
