It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart we announce the sudden passing of Domenico “Dominic” Conversano on October 26, 2017, while vacationing in
Las Vegas. Born in Accadia Foggia, Italy in 1951, Dominic immigrated with his parents Michele Conversano and Giovanna (Salvatore) (both predeceased) through Ellis Island in 1954. His uncle Michele Salvatore (predeceased) sponsored his family to come over to live in Sudbury Ontario. Dominic often teased his father, asking why he would leave beautiful sunny Italy, to live in the frozen north. However Dominic loved northern Ontario and the interesting geological formations, choosing Geology for his focus of study at Laurentian University. He worked as a miner and then surveyor for INCO and eventually began working for Rio Algom in Elliot Lake as a surveyor, creating maps for underground. Dominic was an innovator and when computers were introduced at work in the early 80’s he used them to automate a process in the mining industry. This was the beginning of his true calling of creating computer programs which he would do until he retired in the 2010s. Today his innovative systems are still in use. Technology was his passion and he was always known for having the latest and greatest gadgets. He took pride in sharing his gift with those around him and would help everyone with their computers.

Dominic lived by the credo family first and celebrated his 37th wedding anniversary to his beloved wife Christine (Terrick) this past July. Together they had three children: Sarah (husband Marc Dumais), Michael (Nicole Roadknight) and Joanna (Mark Porter). Nothing gave him more joy in life than spending time with his family, entertaining during the holidays and travelling with his wife. After the family moved to Guelph in 1989, they would often return north for family visits, and spent many relaxing vacations at his brother Frank and sister-in-law Jeannine’s cottage on Trout Lake, also spending time with his sister Nella and his brother
in-law John. Dominic loved being part of his wife’s big family and was the dear son-in-law of Michael and Winnifred Terrick, both predeceased. Dear brother-in-law of William Terrick (Trisha), John Terrick (Pauline), Michael Terrick (Cathy), Patrick Terrick, Cathie Butler (Mark), Lorene Terrick, Mary Anne Zufferli (Joe predeceased) and Dolores Bayes (Brian). He will also be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins on both sides of his family. Dominic was also known for his great sense of humour and laughed every day. His zest for life was contagious, always telling those around him to “live in the moment”, leaving many beautiful memories for those who loved him to treasure.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at GILBERT MACINTYRE AND SON FUNERAL HOME, HART CHAPEL, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph on Monday November 6, 2017 from 2:00 – 4:00 & 6:00 – 9:00 PM.
