It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Terry Wayne Elder on September 9, 2018. Terry leaves behind, Janet, his loving wife of 41 years and daughters Christine (Jeremy) Sandor, Joanna (Loughlin) Dyer, and Margaret (Ben Bowers) Elder. Terry will be greatly missed by his two beloved grandchildren, Juniper and Caspian Sandor, his brother Ken (Louise) Elder of PEI, sisters Janice Taillon and Lori (Colin) Ferguson of Guelph and sister-in-law Lynda Wright.  Terry’s friend Allen Coates will feel the great loss of the friendship they shared. Terry will be fondly remembered by his aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews, and his many, many friends and clients.

He was predeceased by parents Jessie and Jack Elder of Guelph, parents-in-law Hugh and Elsie Wright and brother-in-law, Harvey Wright of Toronto. Born in Toronto, Terry spent his formative years in Guelph, attending Victory School and Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute before earning his BSc at University of Waterloo. On graduation in 1966, he joined Deloitte, Plender, Haskins and Sells, the beginning of his 51- year career as a Chartered Accountant. In 1991, Terry left his partnership at Deloitte and established himself as a sole practitioner, growing the successful Elder Financial Services in west end Toronto.

Terry was an avid sportsman, playing football, baseball and squash in addition to windsurfing, skiing, snowboarding and golfing. Terry loved to travel and began his globe-trotting shortly after receiving his CA, working for Deloitte in Vancouver, Los Angeles, Sydney Australia and Auckland NZ. He believed the key to a successful marriage was to always have a trip in the planning stages and he followed that rule.  Over the years, Terry and Janet travelled to 17 countries in addition to exploring many parts of Canada and the US. In recent years, Terry loved spending time at his beloved cottage at Paradise Point, casting his line from the “Titanic” into Georgian Bay. The fish had nothing to fear. He was a longtime member of The Rotary Club of Toronto Eglinton and of Royal York Road United Church.

We are grateful to Dr. David Hedley (Princess Margaret Hospital), Dr. Hamrahi (Dorothy Ley Hospice) and nurse Kay McKenzie for their excellent care. The family will receive friends at Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W. on Monday, September 17, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00pm and from 7:00 to 9:00pm. A celebration of Terry’s life will be held at Royal York Road United Church, 464 Royal York Road, Etobicoke (at Glenroy) on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at 1:00pm.  In lieu of flowers, friends and family may wish to make a donation to The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, to Dorothy Ley Hospice or a charity of their choice.
